Blogging: Defining your own success

Blogging: Defining your own success

The first thought that comes to mind on what successful blogging means, is having a high number of followers. However, having a lot of followers is only one of the success measures of blogging, but it is not the only measure. When we start blogging, we don't have followers. How then do we define success at the beginning of our blogging stage? Does it mean we are not successful until we have a high number of followers? In this post, I will share what successful blogging means to me. I believe achieving the following below can be a meaningful measure of successful blogging.

1. Publishing your first article

Successful blogging is overcoming the fear you may have and publishing that first article. Writing and sharing content in public can be very intimidating. Putting yourself out there for the world to read, comment, judge, criticize, and applaud your work is a frightening experience. However, it is in our vulnerability that we accomplish our greatest success.

2. Empowering yourself

We've all heard the saying "knowledge is power". Blogging encourages lifelong learning because we first have to learn the skills and acquire the knowledge before we can write. The more we learn, the more we are empowered. We can use the acquired knowledge to build and accelerate our careers, businesses, or relationships.

3. Helping others

Our blogs are a source of education for other people. We help other people learn new skills and acquire knowledge. Our blogs can provide solutions to other people's problems. Even if your blog reaches and helps one person, that is still success in having made a difference in someone’s life.

Comparing ourselves to other people's success can be disheartening as we may end up losing our drive and passion. Therefore, it is up to us to define our own success according to the goals we've set.
